More than 30,000 women took to the streets of the Moroccan city of Rabat as part of the eighth edition of the women-only Victoire à Rabat races, organised by two-time 400m hurdles world champion Nezha Bidouane, on Sunday (10).

With the race's motto being ‘I run according to my ability’, there were five different categories: elite athletes, adult club runners, school-age girls from the age of 14, older women and paralympians.

Bidouane said that the event is aimed at involving women from all backgrounds in sport as well as to allow talented girls to develop their athletic potential and to be recruited at clubs and specialised associations.

"I am very pleased with the success of this event through participation record of 30,200 women and girls, the last edition had recorded some 23,000 competitors," said Bidouane.

Victoire à Rabat is organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Moroccan National Olympic Committee and various government ministries.

Bidouane is President of the organisation Femmes, Réalisations et Valeurs (Women, achievements and values) which organises other women's races in rural areas across Morocco.
