A delegation from the IAAF World Race Walking Cup Taicang 2014 Local Organising Committee (LOC) gave a progress report to the IAAF Council on Thursday (14).

Among the areas covered was the LOC’s promotional activity which included a billboard advertising campaign in both Shanghai and Taicang, and on the routes between the two cities.

The LOC clarified some issues regarding visas and security and provided assurances that neither issue should provide any unexpected challenges and that any IAAF Member Federation that wished to compete in the Cup could do so in complete confident that their would be no barriers to their participation.

Television discussions were well advances and further negotiations would take place with host broadcaster CCTV later in November.

The opening and closing ceremonies were both promised to be memorable with a distinctive Chinese flavour.

Special emphasis was also placed on the event having a strong environmental theme and the LOC expanded on their plans for recycling waste from the competition as well as promoting the best air quality possible in and around the competition venue.
