Now in its 17th year the IAAF World Athletics Day is one of the busiest programmes of competitions in the annual global Athletics calendar with this year’s edition having taken place during the weekend of Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 May 2012. Across all activities 158 IAAF national Member Federations took part in 2012.
To mark the IAAF Centenary, the draw selected 12 names from amongst the Youth Age Group athletes (1 Boy and 1 Girl per Area; born in 1995-1996; 16-17 years old) who had won Club competitions at the IAAF World Athletics Day in their respective countries.
These 12 lucky young athletes will be invited to attend the IAAF Centenary Gala in Barcelona, Spain, from Friday 23 to Saturday 24 November (with travel and full-board accommodation costs covered by the IAAF) and will be invited on stage as part of the Gala show (Saturday night) to symbolise a bright future for athletics.
