Preview: women's 200m – IAAF Continental Cup, Marrakech 2014

Dafne Schippers lost her world lead to Allyson Felix’s 22.02 clocking at the IAAF Diamond League final in Brussels last Friday, finishing third behind her Europe team-mate in Marrakech, Myriam Soumare of France.

Having won the European Championship title  in Zurich in a stunning 22.03, finishing 0.55 clear of Soumare, Schippers will be keen to settle that personal score too as this race presents a chance for the Flying Dutchwoman to make a flying finish to her breakthrough season as a world-class sprinter.

Schippers and Soumare meet first, of course, in the 100m on Saturday before their head-to-head at the longer distance the following day.

The field also includes Joanna Atkins, a member of the US 4x400m relay team that took world indoor gold in Sopot in March. She has a 22.27 clocking to her name this year. Atkins is partnered in the Americas team by Anthonique Strachan of The Bahamas, who has run 22.50 in 2014.
