USA fields full teams for IAAF World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017

The United States will send 28 athletes to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017 on 26 March.

National cross-country champion Leonard Korir leads the men’s team. The 30-year-old won the men’s race at the Great Edinburgh X-Country in January and then won the Houston Half Marathon eight days later.

Olympic 5000m silver medallist Paul Chelimo is one of the four athletes named for the mixed relay event.

At the 2015 World Cross Country Championships, it was in the senior women’s race where USA came closest to a medal, finishing fifth in the team standings. Two years prior, they took silver in the senior men’s team contest.
