Istanbul 2012 - Flash Interviews - Men's 3000m First Round

Edwin Cheruiyot SOI, KEN

This was a perfect race with a perfect pace. I was expecting it to be slow and it was a slow race. When you run slow you must not have a sprinter in the leading group. My aim was not to win this heat, I was going for rank three or four. But when on the last lane they were still so slow I realized that I could go in front. In the final I will go for nothing else than the gold. I am not good in sprinting, so I will pace the race and make team work with my compatriot Choge who runs in the next heat. I hope he will make it to the final. I pray for it.

I am 31 years old and I had not run indoors in a long time, but the race in Melbourne gave me the confidence coming here. I ran pretty even and stayed confident. I have nothing to lose here.

Bernard LAGAT, USA

It's been a tactical race. There was a lot of pushing and shoving in this race. It's expected, there are lot of people who don't have experience, but I didn't expect it to be so crazy. I've been shoved before but not that wrong. I just wanted to qualify, I'm in already, so that's good. Now, the real race is going to be on Sunday

I am happy I made it through. I just wanted to secure my qualification. I hope we will have a fast final on Sunday, but I am ready for any type of race. I am ready to repeat or improve my bronze medal from Daegu.
