The IAAF with great sadness received the news today, Thursday 7 February, from the Portuguese Federation of the death this morning of João Braga dos Anjos the much respected technical official.

João Braga dos Anjos (DOB 19 January 1953), who by profession was a surgeon, had been fighting a long, very courageous and dignified fight against cancer.

A distinguished member of the Portuguese Athletics family, João Braga dos Anjos since the birth of the Braga Athletics Association had for 30 years been its president.  A member of the International Technical Official (ITO) panel until 2009, when the disease was diagnosed, he still officiated in the Berlin World Championships of that year. He then served as a member of the Area Technical Official (ATO) panel, because his health prevented him from being present for the ITO evaluation.

The IAAF mourns his loss and offers its deepest and sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
