Olympic legends star at AIPS function in Beijing

Track and field legends Don Quarrie, Cathy Freeman, Michael Johnson, Edwin Moses, Nawal El Moutawakel, Daley Thompson, were guests of honour at a special reception organised by AIPS, the international journalists’ association, and supported by Laureus, to celebrate the XXIXth Summer Olympics currently taking place in Beijing.

Members of the International Olympic Committee and the world’s media attended the event, staged at the Casa D’Italia today (21).

Among those present were some of the stars from the Beijing Olympics including Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva, who broke the World Pole Vault record, with 5.05m, when retaining her Olympic title, and 3000m Steeplechase gold medallist Brimin Kipruto of Kenya.

Also attending the event were Guy Sanan, Chief Executive Officer of Laureus, and Gianni Merlo, President of AIPS.
