Sandra Perkovic, Croatia’s two-time world and Olympic discus champion, has joined a growing list of great global champions who this year have donated significant competition items to the IAAF Heritage Collection.

Perkovic, who in Berlin last month captured a historic fifth European discus title, has thrown her support behind IAAF Heritage, whose aim is to preserve and savour artefacts from the best athletics moments to help promote the sport and engage with fans.

The 28-year-old Croatian, after winning at home at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Zagreb on Tuesday and ahead of competing for Europe at the IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava this weekend, has very generously donated the throwing shoes which she wore when winning the 2017 World Championships gold medal.

Perkovic’s winning throw in London’s Olympic stadium on Sunday 13 August 2017 was 70.31m. It was a dominant performance which saw all her four valid throws in the final sail beyond 69 metres.

“By donating my winning pair of London shoes which will be on public exhibition next year, I hope to stir interest and help motivate fans and aspiring throwers around the world,” said Perkovic. “IAAF Heritage is about creating a global athletics legacy and it’s great to know my shoes will be treasured and preserved for future generations.”

Perkovic’s shoes will be on public display next year in Doha, Qatar, as part of an IAAF Heritage Exhibition in the lead-in to the IAAF World Championships Doha 2019.
