IAAF World Athletics Heritage Plaque

This is a location-based recognition which highlights, celebrates and links together iconic and historic athletics competitions, careers, performances, cities, venues, landmarks and culture around the world.

The Plaque is awarded for “an outstanding contribution to the worldwide history and development of the sport of track & field athletics and of out of stadia athletics disciplines such as cross country, mountain, road, trail and ultra-running, and race walking.”

World Athletics Heritage Plaques recognise coaching legends and publications

The World Athletics Heritage Plaque has been awarded posthumously to six world renowned coaches and to seven of the sport’s oldest magazines in recognition of their historic contribution to the promotion of Athletics, IAAF President Sebastian Coe announced at this evening’s IAAF/LOC press conference at Khalifa Stadium ahead of the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.
