Samsung Diamond League Ambassador Andreas Thorkildsen is back in Norway for Christmas, but for the world, Olympic and European champion the New Year is already underway.??

"Hi everyone,??

"After another good training stint in San Diego, I'm now back in Oslo and counting down the days to Christmas. This year I'll be spending Christmas with my girlfriend Christina Vukicevic and her family. We take it in turns each year whose family we'll spend Christmas with, and this year it's her turn.??

"There's not really anything specific that I'd like for Christmas, apart from world peace, which I wish for every year. But as you get older Christmas is more about spending time with family, and less and less about gifts - that's for children to enjoy.??

"The start of 2011 is just a few days away, but I won't be making any New Year's resolutions because they'll only end up broken. For me the year started in November, because that's when my annual training cycle begins. At the start of it, my coach and I sit down and work out everything we want to achieve in the upcoming year. The IAAF World Championships in Daegu next year is obviously the major goal, but more specifically there are a few technical areas that we're looking at improving. Nothing major, because our programme has worked so well for us in the past - just a minor tweak here and there.??

"Everything in training so far this winter has been all about base fitness and strength, but in January I'm going to start throwing and that's when we'll see how much the training is paying off. Then in March/April time it will be back to San Diego to get in one final block of quality training before the 2011 season gets underway.??

"2011 looks set to be a great year - I'm really looking forward to it!"??
