President Lamine Diack has begun an extensive tour of the Oceania area with a stay in New Zealand, becoming the first IAAF President in the history of the association that was founded in 1912 to visit the country.
President Diack is attending the IPC World Athletics Championships in Christchurch and then will travel to Wellington, to visit the offices of the Athletics New Zealand where as well as the staff and board members he will met long-time friend and patron of Athletics New Zealand, Arthur Eustace, who is an Honorary Life Personal Member of the IAAF
This was President Diack’s second visit to an IPC World Championships having been to the event in Lille, France in 2002, and he was very impressed by the action he saw at the 20,000 capacity QE II Stadium.
"I have been very impressed with what I have seen on the track with the standard of the athletes,” said President Diack. “There is a great atmosphere here, the stadium is fantastic and the organisation has been first class."

Le Président Lamine Diack a entrepris une tournée étendue de la Région Océanie, avec tout d'abord une étape en Nouvelle-Zélande, devenant ce faisant le premier président de toute l'histoire de l'IAAF, fondée en 1912, à visiter ce pays.
Le Président Diack va dans un premier temps assister aux Championnats du Monde d'Athlétisme du CIP à Christchurch avant de rallier Wellington, où il effectuera une visite au siège de la fédération nationale, Athletics New Zealand. En plus de rencontrer le personnel et les dirigeants de la fédération, il y retrouvera son ami de longue date, Arthur Eustace, un des piliers d'Athletics New Zealand et Membre personnel honoraire à vie de l'IAAF.
Il s'agit de la deuxième fois que le Président Diack assiste à des Championnats du Monde du CIP, ayant également été présent pour l'édition de Lille, en France, en 2002. M. Diack a fortement apprécié tout ce qu'il a vu dans le Stade QE II, qui peut accueillir 20 000 spectateurs, déclarant notamment:
"J'ai été très impressionné par le niveau des athlètes et leurs performances sur la piste. L'ambiance qui règne ici est superbe, le stade est fantastique et l'organisation a été de tout premier ordre."
