Svein Arne Hansen of Norway was elected as President of European Athletics on Saturday (11).
Hansen, the former meeting director of the Bislett Games in Oslo, which is now an IAAF Diamond League meeting, received 26 votes from the 50 European Athletics member federations, giving him an overall majority in the first round of voting.
The three official candidates for the presidency of European Athletics were Hansen, Jean Gracia (FRA) and Antti Pihlakoski (FIN). Gracia received 19 votes and Pihlakoski received five votes.
Dobrimir Karamarinov, Frank Hensel and Gracia were elected as the three vice presidents. Karamarinov of Bulgaria received 37 votes, Hensel of Germany 33 votes and Gracia 32.
The 13 European Athletics Council members elected (with votes in brackets) were: Antti Pihlakoski (44), Jorge Salcedo (43), Libor Varhanik (43), Dimakos Panagiotis (40), Jose Luis de Carlos (38), Marton Gyulai (37), Sylvia Barlag (36), Toralf Nilsson (34), Gregor Bencina (33), Alfio Giomi (32), Gabriela Szabo (32), Erich Teigamagi (32), Yaras Salih Munir (32).
Incumbent European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz will hand over to Hansen at the end of the Congress after 16 years of leading the IAAF area association, having been elected in 1999.

Le Norvégien Svein Arne Hansen a été élu à la présidence de European Athletics (EA) samedi (11).
Hansen, ancien directeur des Jeux Bislett à Oslo - à présent une compétition de la Ligue de diamant de l'IAAF - a reçu 26 votes en sa faveur sur le total de 50 fédérations membres que compte l'EA, ce qui lui a valu une majorité absolue dès le premier tour de l'élection.
Les trois candidats officiels à la présidence d'European Athletics étaient Hansen, Jean Gracia (FRA) et Antti Pihlakoski (FIN). Gracia a reçu 19 votes et Pihlakoski cinq.
Dobrimir Karamarinov, Frank Hensel et Gracia ont été élus aux trois postes de vice-présidents. Le Bulgare Karamarinov a reçu 37 votes, l'Allemand Hensel, 33, et Gracia, 32.

Le président en fonction d'European Athletics, Hansjörg Wirz, passera la main à Hansen à la fin du Congrès après 16 ans passés à la tête de l'association régionale de l'IAAF, depuis son élection en 1999.
