Former Benin Athletics Federation president Montcho dies

The IAAF is deeply saddened by the news that Théophile Montcho, a Vice President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), died on 11 January at his home in Godomey, Benin.

Montcho served Benin as the Minister for Youth, Sports and Recreation in 2006-07 during a political career that begin with his election to the National Assembly in 1991 for a four-year term.

Montcho spent the past 30 years working at the Benin Athletics Federation, 15 as general secretary and 15 as president. In 2007 he was elected as a Vice President for the CAA.

One highlight of his distinguished career in athletics was seeing his nation host the African Senior Championships in 2012.
