World Junior Record for Hammer Throw Officially Ratified

The International Amateur Athletic Federation has officially ratified the performance of the 19 year-old Finnish athlete Olli-Pekka Karjalainen as a new Junior World Record in the Hammer Throw.

Karjalainen threw 78.33 metres in Seinäjoki on 5 August 1999, breaking the 21-year-old record of 78.14 metres set by Roland Steuk (GDR) in Leipzig on 30 June 1978.
