tickets already sold for Van Damme Golden League
26 April 2002 –
Brussels’ Memorial Van Damme meeting on 30 August this summer, the penultimate
stop in this year’s prestigious Golden League, has announced advance sales of
20,000 tickets.
Crowds of 40,000 plus spectators are annually drawn to the Belgium capital for
this meeting, attracted by stars of the
calibre of Marion
Jones, Maurice Greene, El Guerrouj and Cathy Freeman, and a spectacular
pyrotechnical finale with a music concert which this year will feature the
Australian Abba tribute band “Björn
Again”.
2002 will mark the 26th edition of the
Brussels meeting. Last year the King Baudouin Stadium attracted a capacity
audience of 46,500, which witnessed a World steeplechase record by Morocco's
Brahim Boulami (7:55.28) and the dramatic break -through of America's 25 year
old J.J. Johnson, a basketball player until 1999, who flowed round the curve to
win the men's 200 metres in 19.88 seconds!
