The world's two fastest 1500m runners, Sweden-based Abeba Aregawi and her Ethiopian compatriot Genzebe Dibaba, will square off over the distance at the DN Galan in Stockholm on 17 August, the 10th stop on the Samsung Diamond League circuit.

Aregawi leads the world after her sizzling 3:56.54 performance at the Samsung Diamond League stop in Rome late last month. Aregawi also won the Oslo Diamond League fixture establishing herself as the best this year in the 1500m.

At the DN Galan, she’ll now be facing the world number two this year, Genzebe Dibaba, winner of the Samsung Diamond League in Shanghai with 3:57.77. Stockholm’s 19-year-old stadium record of 3:57.12, held by legendary Mary Decker, must surely be under threat.

The Stockholm-based Aregawi has high expectations for the meeting in the classic Stockholm Stadium.

"I feel very comfortable in Sweden and I’m looking forward to competing in Stockholm," she said.

Just like Aregawi and so many others this season, Dibaba is training hard for the Olympics in London that will take place just prior to DN Galan.

"Currently my focus is the Olympics," she said. "I hope to come to Stockholm with an Olympic medal."

The world’s top-two leading women's metric milers are looking forward to DN Galan where the knowledgeable audience can yet again get the opportunity to see another world-class competition.
