Juana Rosario Arrendel, the winner of the women's High Jump at the at the 20th Central American and Caribbean Games, and Arismendy Peguero Thicket, the CAC Games bronze medallist at 400m and one of the national quartet which took fifth place at the World Indoors in Mosow in the 4x400m were respectively named as the Dominican Republic female and male athletes of the year on 22 December 2006.
