Athletes from 55 nations to set out on the roads of Cheboksary

MonteCarloHuge crowds are expected to greet race walkers from 55 Member Federations of the IAAF who will compete at the 23rd IAAF World Race Walking Cup, Cheboksary, Russia, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May 2008.

The city of Cheboksary has 458,000 inhabitants and is located on the southern bank of the Volga River some 600km from Moscow, and is the capital of the Chuvash Republic which is part of the Russian Federation. Cheboksary was officially founded in 1469, though according to archaeological excavations the area had been populated considerably earlier.

The 2km loop road course around which the five races of the World Race Walking Cup will be contested (men’s 50km, men’s and women’s 20km and junior men’s and women’s 10km races) is situated on the embankment of Cheboksary’s bay in the Pevcheskoe field district.

55 nations have entered a total of 450 athletes to compete this coming weekend, a figure which is composed of 288 Male athletes and 162 Female athletes.
