Austrian winners in Salzburg Amref Marathon

There were home wins in the 6th edition of the Salzburg Amref Marathon on Sunday (3), which included the Austrian marathon championships.

Christian Pflügl and Ursula Bredlinger took first places with 2:23:32 and 2:49:20 respectively. Including other events the race had a record figure of 4680 starters.

The Salzburg Amref Marathon is an IAAF Label Road Race.
 
30 year-old Christian Pflügl became the first Austrian to win the men’s race in Salzburg. Until the 35 k mark he ran side by side with Kenyan Kennedy Matolo, who later finished second in 2:24:57. When Pflügl then increased the pace he opened a decisive gap and went on to win the race plus defend his Austrian marathon title. Karl Aumayr (Austria) was third with 2:28:44.
 
In the women’s race Ursula Bredlinger had a much bigger advantage. With 2:49:20 she also defended her national title. Austrians Maria Zechmeister (2:55:21) and Sabine Hofer (2:56:55) took the next places. The half marathon event was won by Gedina Gebremedhin (Ethiopia/1:04:46 minutes) and Lucy Karimi (Kenya/1:16:06).
