Ostrava, Czech RepublicLocal hero Jaroslav Baba was the winner of the first Moravia High Jump Tour, but his results got worse with each meeting. His 2.35m win in Hustopece in the first leg is still the best mark of the year, but in Trinec he did 2.27, and on Saturday (29 Jan) in Ostrava at the first "Ostravska latka" competition Baba was third with 2.25.

The surprise of the evening was Yuriy Krymarenko from Ukraine. He twice bettered his best. At first he went over 2.25 and on second over 2.27. He was the leader at that time. The Czech stars passed 2.27 and Baba had very close misses at 2.29, but fortunately for the local crowd Svatoslav Ton made it on his third and was the winner. Krymarenko remained second and Baba was third.

Iva Strakova headed the women´s competition in Ostrava. She successfully jumped 1.92m on her first 192 and that was the standard, but it was not all. Strakova even went over 1.94 on her third and showed also great potential at 1.97. Surprisingly good jumps were also made by American Ifoma Jones who went over 1.92 - her overall personal best and she had very close misses at 194.
