Andy Baddeley of Great Britain and local girl Erin Donohue will return to the New York Armory to lead solid Mile fields at the New Balance Games on 23 January.

Baddeley, the 2008 winner who later took top honours in the Dream Mile in Oslo tat same year, will face stiff competition from New Zealand Olympian Adrian Blincoe and another Briton, Neil Speiaght, who was second last year. They’ll need to keep an eye out for Americans Bobby Curtin and recent Stanford graduate Garrett Heath, and Taylor Milne of Canada.

Baddeley has taken a liking to competing, and competing well, in New York. Last September he beat former World 1500m champion Bernard Lagat in the Fifth Avenue Mile.

Donohue, a 2008 Olympian, has also run well recently in New York, most recently taking the Midnight Run 4-Miler in Central Park on New Year’s Eve.

Her chief competition comes from Canadian Hilary Stellingwerff, now fully recovered from an Achilles tendon injury which thwarted her 2009, and recent university graduates Nicole Edwards (Canada),  Sara Bowman, and Frances Koons. Marina Muncan of Serbia) should not be overlooked.

A special women's 400m race will also be contested, a battle of former NCAA champions. Natasha Hastings, the 2007 NCAA indoor and outdoor 400m champion and 2008 Olympic gold medallist in the 4x400m Relay, will face defending New Balance Games champion Aliann Pompey of Guyana, a three-time Olympian.
