24 June 2001 – Kingston, Jamaica - Jamaican double sprint queen Aileen Bailey plans on making a run at a pair of sprint medals at the World Athletics Championships in August.

Bailey won the 200 meters here Saturday in 22.86 seconds on the final day of the Jamaican Athletics Championships, the qualifier for the world meet August 3-12 at Edmonton, Canada.

Bailey, who captured the 100m Friday in 11.14 seconds, was pleased with her efforts here but wants more glory in Edmonton.

“I am really happy that I did so well,” said Bailey. “But I am not satisfied with this. I want to go to the World Championships and give of my best and get myself into medal contention.”

Bailey took advantage of the absence of Merlene Ottey and Peta-Gayle Dowdie to win by .04 over runner-up Juliet Campbell. But the 20-year-old Barton Community College athlete said she was never concerned who was gone.

“I was never concerned about Ottey and Dowdie,” she said. “Both are class athletes. But I am confident in my ability and I believe I could have won with them in the race. I am working hard and it is paying off.”
