27 October 2000 - If running the five boroughs of the New York City Marathon on 5 November was not challenging enough, Steve Wilson of New York, a Managing Director for Chase H&Q, has decided to give all 30,000 competitors a head start.

To celebrate the 25th running of the race through New York's five boroughs, Wilson will begin the race last, after every other marathoner has crossed the start line. For every runner he passes, Chase Manhattan Bank will donate $1.00 to Fred's Team, a charity which was created in memory of NYC Marathon founder Fred Lebow who died of brain cancer in 1994. Fred's Team helps fund cancer research and benefits the Aubrey Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The 43-year-old Wilson has three New York City Marathons on his resume and owns a personal best of 4:07. "I love the New York City Marathon, and it makes it even better to run the race knowing my effort will help raise money for the fight against cancer," said Wilson.

Based on last year's race results, if Wilson runs in the vicinity of his personal best, he would pass more than 15,000 runners which would earn $15,000 for Fred's Team.
