World and Olympic 10,000m champion Kenenisa Bekele will chase yet another World record at the Norwich Union Grand Prix - IAAF indoor permit - meeting in Birmingham, England on 18 February 2005.

Bekele, the current male World Athlete of the Year has targeted the World indoor Two Miles best of 8:04.69, set by compatriot Haile Gebrselassie at the same meeting in 2003.

The Ethiopian made an impressive debut at the National Indoor Arena track this year, breaking the World indoor 5000m record there this year, which was only his second ever run on an indoor track.

"Despite everything I achieved this year, I am still driven to do more and more in athletics. I am still as hungry to do as much as I possibly can in this sport, and targeting the two mile record in Birmingham is the next of those targets.”

Bekele will be joined in the two mile race by compatriots Mulugeta Wondimu, Abiyote Abate and Markos Geneti, the World indoor bronze medallist over 3000m.
