22 July 2002 Tallinn – Despite light rain falling during the competition, the Estonian EAA permit meet ‘Tallinn 2002’ produced a number of excellent results for the crowd of 5000 spectators.

In the women´s high jump, Sweden's world indoor champion Kajsa Bergqvist emphatically showed again who is the number one jumper in the world. At the first attempt she cleared  2 metres and then unsuccessfully tried for a new national record of 205 cm. It is already the fourth time in the season she has been able to achieve 2 metres or better.

Sprint hurdling superstar Gail Devers won the women’s 100m hurdles with 12.83, and she has now followed most of her compatriots back to the USA for a well deserved mid-season rest.

In the women's javelin, there was quick and sweet revenge for world record holder Osledys Menendez of Cuba over her Monaco conqueror, Tatyana Shikolenko. Menendez achieved a mark of  64.96, while Shikolenko who also beat the Cuban in Paris, was 2nd with 62.24 m.

An excellent 100m time was achieved by veteran sprinter Frankie Fredericks of Namibia with 10.13, while over the barriers, the Latvian talent Stanislav Olijars confirmed his shape before the European Championships with 13.43 win in the high hurdles against a wind of -1.1 m/s.

German javelin thrower Boris Henry was also in good shape. During the heaviest rain at the end of the meet he showed his class with a release of 84.64 m. The local crowd were also happy with the form of discus thrower Alexander Tammert who had a clear win over Lthuania's Olympic Champion Virgilijus Alekna.

Another local hero Erkki Nool, the Olympic Decathlon champion had the 9th quickest time at 200m (combined position from two races) of 21.46 and also contributed to a national record of 40.17, as part of the 4x100m relay team.
