IAAF Council decide on new race walking circuit from 2003, IAAF to recognise more World Bests on Road
Council agreed to introduce a Race Walking circuit each year, starting in 2003, to help promote race walking. Although the details will be finalized in the near future, it was agreed that the circuit would be composed of 6 meetings and prize money would be available - based on the example of the Combined Events Challenge. It was also agreed that the IAAF Competitions Commission would study a way to introduce Junior events at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup.

Following the report of the IAAF Cross Country and Road Racing Committee, it was agreed that the Council will, in principle, recognize World Best performances for road races at the following distances: 10km, 15km, 20km, 25km, 30km, Marathon, 100km and Road Relay. Council also recommends that major IAAF events on the road should always be organized on the same weekend, if possible, and that every effort should be taken to ensure long term planning of the road running calendar.
