The 2008 World Athlete of the Year Usain Bolt complained of “slight discomfort” to his feet following his first day in training since his April 29 car accident in St Catherine, Jamaica.

The triple Olympic gold medallist did some light sprints in sneakers for the first time in eight days at the Stadium East Track in Kingston.

The World 100 and 200 record holder, who sustained the minor injuries to the ball of both feet when leaving the wreck of his 2009 BMW M3 Coupe, had undergone a minor surgery at the St Joseph Hospital to remove the thorns on April 30.  He was subsequently ordered by doctors to rest for a week.

Bolt’s coach Glen Mills disclosed that the sprinter complained of “slight discomfort” following approximately 10 minutes of light wind-sprints on Thursday.

“The stitches came out of his foot yesterday (Wednesday), so he came out today (Thursday) just to feel himself out; doing some easy strides, just to feel how his foot feels,” Mills said.

“He still has a slight discomfort, but nothing major (and) I’d hope by weekend he should not be feeling any pain what so ever,” the veteran coach reasoned.

Having missed the Jamaica International Invitational on May 2, Bolt’s next scheduled race — a 150m — is set for the streets of Manchester on May 17.

However, Mills shied away from committing that the 22-year-old sprinter would ready in time for that assignment.

“I can’t say (yet). Today is the first day he came out and did some easy strides.  As to whether he runs next week, that’s still in the balance (because) I’m not in a position to decide on that yet,” the coached explained. “He would have to do some actual training first, whenever he’s pain free,” Mills said.

Bolt had been traveling into Kingston from the direction of May Pen, Clarendon shortly after 1:00 pm on April 29, when the accident occurred, approximately 500 metres from the toll plaza. The road was slippery from afternoon showers.
