In a close finish, Christopher Clarke of Great Britain won the Boys' 400m dash on Friday's third day of the 5th IAAF Wold Youth Championships.

Clarke, who found himself behind early leaders Kirani James of Grenada, and his team-mate Jodan McGarth on the backstretch, took charge at the 200m mark.

However, entering the home stretch with a good lead, Clarke looked a certain winner, but about 10 metres from the finish line, realised the gap was closing.

He, however, did not panic and in the end, the boy, who entered the Championships as the fastest youth with 46.70, finished four hundredths of a second outside his World Youth leading time to win the gold in 46.74 seconds.

In doing so, he defeated the fast finishing James (46.96) and Russian Vladimir Krasnov (47.03).
