28 May 2000 – Brussels – Kenya’s Simon Kasirili in the men’s race, and Belgium’s Marleen Renders for the women, won in Sunday’s 21st edition of the Brussels 20km, with some 20,000 race participants.

Kasirili recorded 1:1.36 battling against difficult weather conditions (rain and gale force winds). In fact, due to the weather, the race organisers were obliged to shorten the course from 20km to 18km and change the routing in order to avoid passing through the most exposed areas, particularly the Cambre Woods.

In the women’s race, Marleen Renders, in 1:02.59, recorded her fifth consecutive victory.
