World Pole Vault record holder and IAAF Council Member Sergey Bubka at an Extraordinary Congress of the (NOC) National Olympic Committee of Ukraine was elected as its new President.
Bubka, the 1988 Olympic gold medallist and six time World champion secured 80 votes out of 110, with 30 votes going to Mykola Martsenyuk, the former Vice Minister of Sport.
Valeriy Borzov, MP and President of UKR Athletics, former Minister of Sport, and the legendary double sprint winner at the 1972 Olympics, and Ivan Fedorenko, a former Minister of Sport, and Vice-President of Ukraine’s NOC, withdrew.
