New York, USAtime Olympic 200m gold medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica will be targeting her second Madison Square Garden victory while the world’s finest men’s shot putters will once again gather in New York for Friday’s (29) Millrose Games.

The 103rd edition of the Millrose Games is the first of ten IAAF Indoor Permit Meetings for 2010.

In a memorable battle with American Lisa Barber, Campbell-Brown won the Millrose 60m title in 2006, clocking 7.10. Trailing late in the race, Campbell-Brown put on a final burst of speed to barely nip Barber, who later went on to win the World indoor title in Moscow.

Barber, along with 2008 Olympic Games finalists Muna Lee and Marshevet (Hooker) Myers, are slated to challenge Campbell-Brown Friday night at Millrose.

Hoffa and Nelson chasing third Millrose victories, but they’ll have Cantwell to contend with

Once again, some of the world’s finest men’s shot putters will take centre stage at the Garden. Former World champions Reese Hoffa and Adam Nelson will be gunning for their third New York victories, but they’ll have reigning World champion Christian Cantwell, who’ll be looking for his second Millrose win, to tangle with.

With no other events coinciding with the event, the putters have the full attention of the crowd, and each year take full advantage. In 2008, Nelson was named the Millrose Athlete of the Meet following his Herculean winning throw of 22.07m, which replaced Cantwell's 2007 winning toss of 21.88m as the Madison Square Garden record.

Just prior to winning the 2006 World indoor title, Hoffa won at Millrose with a then Madison Square Garden record of 21.65m, which was the second best indoor throw in the world that year. Hoffa posted the year's best throw, and his indoor career best, in capturing the World crown in Moscow later that winter with his winning toss of 22.11m.

Cantwell meanwhile opened his season last Friday in Nordhausen, Germany, with a world-leading 21.32m effort.

The first event of the 2010 USA Track & Field Visa Championship Series, the Millrose Games will be televised live on ESPN2 from 8-10 p.m., US Eastern Time.
