The revived Belgrade Women’s Race, sponsored by Women’s Secret attracted over 3000 competitors to the Serbian capital this weekend. The 7.7 km race was run on the traffic-free recreational island of Ada Ciganlija, in the middle of the Sava River, barely three kilometres from Belgrade centre. Florence Chepkirui of Kenya out-sprinted Krisztina Papp of Hungary with pre-race favourite Joyce Chepchumba, also of Kenya in third place.
Chepkirui won in 25:28, with Papp a stride behind on the same time, and Chepchumba on 25:54. Next was the first Serbia & Montenegro contestant, 17-year-old Azra Eminovic in 26:46. The race was run in calm, sunny weather and temperatures around 20C (68F).
