A group of 22 athletes left Nairobi on Saturday (5) for the Poland World Juniors teeming with confidence determined to defend the overall title Kenya won two years ago in Beijing.

Led by former World junior cross country bronze medallist Mathew Kisorio, coach Kariuki Gekonyo said they knew that they will be the target of the rest of the world.

"I am not worried of that because we have prepared this team well and they are going to follow the tradition," said Gekonyo.

Some of the juniors are strong enough to challenge their senior counterparts but were kept away from competition leading to the national trials which were held this weekend.

Gekonyo said they aim is to place similar number of boys and girls medallists and will be gunning for nothing short of dominating from the 800 metres to 10,000m.

"In some cases we want a 1-2 because we are burdened by history to do this," said Gekonyo who also led the last team of two years ago to world glory.

Kisorio said he will lead by example by winning the 5000m Kenya team.
