Organisers of the Copernicus Cup have revealed the names of the first three top athletes set to compete at the IAAF World Indoor Tour meeting on 15 February.

National stars Kamila Licwinko, Angelika Cichocka and Marcin Lewandowski will all be in action in Arena Torun for the penultimate fixture in the six-meeting World Indoor Tour series as athletes battle it out for wild card entries for the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018.

Licwinko has fond memories of competing in Torun. The 2014 world indoor champion jumped her lifetime best of 2.02m there in 2015 to break her own national indoor record. Last year, following medals at three successive indoor major championships, Licwinko earned her first global outdoor medal when finishing third at the World Championships in London.

Earlier this year Lewandowski added the European indoor 1500m title to the 800m gold medal he had won at the 2015 edition of the championships. He went on to break the Polish 1500m record with 3:34.04 before finishing seventh at that distance at the World Championships in London.

European 1500m champion Cichocka had one of her best seasons to date in 2017. The 2014 world indoor silver medallist reached the finals of the 800m and 1500m at the World Championships in London and ended the year with PBs in both events, clocking 1:58.41 and 4:01.61. She also set a Polish record of 4:19.58 in the mile.

The scoring disciplines for the 2018 World Indoor Tour were confirmed last week. Of those 11 disciplines, nine will be contested in Torun: the men’s 60m, 800m, pole vault, triple jump and shot put, and the women’s 400m, 1500m, 60m hurdles and high jump.
