Ethiopia’s Imane Merga, a five-time winner of the Cross de Atapuerca, will return to the IAAF Cross Country Permit meeting in Burgos on 13 November in pursuit of a record sixth successive victory.

Meanwhile, the participation of Ethiopian duo Senbere Teferi and Netsanet Gudeta means that all three medallists from the senior women’s race at the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships will be reunited, as organisers had previously announced that world cross-country champion Agnes Tirop will compete.

Merga, who won the 2011 world cross-country title, will line up alongside Bahrain’s 2014 Asian cross-country champion Aweke Ayalew, who finished third in Burgos last year, as well as Asian 10,000m champion El Hassan Elabbassi of Bahrain, Uganda’s 2009 world junior cross-country bronze medallist Moses Kibet and Eritrea’s 2009 world youth 3000m bronze medallist Goitom Kifle.

In the women’s race, the trio of world cross-country medallists will take on Ethiopia’s Belaynesh Oljira, who will be aiming to become the first woman to win three titles at the Cross de Atapuerca, having won in 2014 and 2015.
