Leading the hopes of the Czech team for the 12th IAAF World Junior Championships, Bydgoszcz, Poland, 8-13 July 2008 are two young women.

Hammer thrower Katerina Šafránková surprised last year with silver medal at the European Junior Champs. This season she had improved not only her personal best, but also the senior national record up to 68.26m. Heptathlete Nikol Ogrodníková won the continental junior bronze medal in Hengelo among older competitors, because she was still in Youth category last year. In Bydgoszcz is to compete in her strongest discipline the Javelin Throw, too.

The biggest men’s hopes are 400m-runner Petr Vanek, who set new Czech junior record 46.88 at the national championships, and Martin Hrstka, the half-miler.
