8 January 2002 - New York - Stacy Dragila will try to break the world record for the pole vault yet again at the 2002 Millrose Games.

The reigning Olympic and world champion heads the field for the 95th edition of the track and field event to be staged on 1 February.

Other winners from last year's Millrose Games who'll compete again include Olympic silver medalist Lawrence Johnson in the men's pole vault, Olympic bronze medalist Bernard Lagat in the men's mile, and U.S. indoor champion Amy Acuff in the high jump.

Dragila cleared 4.63 meters at the Millrose Games last year to break the world indoor mark of 4.62 she set in the 2000 USA Championships. She wound up breaking the pole vault record eight times in 2001 - four indoor, four outdoors. The current marks are 4.81 outdoors and 4.70 indoors.

The Millrose games is the second stage of the four meeting 2002 USAT&F indoor series that includes two key New York stops, the Millrose Games and US Championships.

The circuit begins January 27 with the Boston Indoor Games, a tuneup for the February 1 Millrose meet at Madison Square Garden.

The Midwest Track Classic follows February 9 at Lincoln, Nebraska. The concluding met of the fourth season, the US Indoor Championship, is set for March 1-2 at the New York Armory.

"This years Golden Spike Tour is being held in some of the top track and field venues in the nation," USA Track and Field chief executive Craig Masback said. "With last years Golden Spike Tour being our best ever, we expect to build on that success. To bring it all together in New York City, which has become our second home, is the perfect way to
finish the Tour."
