Pole Vaulters Danny Ecker and Tim Lobinger plus High Jumper Ariane Friedrich head the German team, which was nominated by the Deutscher Leichtathletik-Verband (DLV) for the World Indoor Championships. These three will carry German hopes for a medal in Valencia next week. But the shot putters may also be in with a chance.
The DLV named 16 athletes – ten men and six women – for the global championships. The team will have exactly the same size as in Moscow two years ago, when the Germans won three medals. Among these was the sensational gold by André Niklaus in the Heptathlon. But this time Niklaus missed qualifying for the World Indoors. From the team for Valencia there is one athlete who had won a medal two years ago: Tim Lobinger was third in Moscow in 2006.
