The headliner for the Estonian team at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea (27 Aug to 4 Sep) will be 2008 Olympic Discus Throw champion Gerd Kanter.

The nation also has high hopes for 2009 European Indoor Heptathlon champion Mikk Pahapill, who has been focusing throughout the season on putting on his top performance in the Decathlon in Daegu, alongside fellow decathlete Andres Raja.

The men’s Discus Throw is another event where the small nation will be represented by two athletes - next to Gerd Kanter, Mart Israel will take the stage.

Sprinter Marek Niit, who has set ten new national records this year alone, will enter the 100m and 200m. In men’s Javelin Throw, Mihkel Kukk will step forward for Estonia.

In women’s events, the team will be represented by three athletes – Maris Magi in the 400m, national record holder Anna Iljustsenko in High Jump and current European U23 champion Grit Sadeiko in the Heptathlon.
