Bressanone/BrixenUnited States’ Ebony Eutsey, shortly after winning the girls’ 400m final at the 6th World Youth Championships on Friday, is looking forward to the 2012 Olympics in London.

Eutsey became the first USA winner of the 400m title last claimed by Natasha Hastings in Sherbrooke in 2003 with a confident display, which saw her blazing from the blocks to take control of the race from as early as the backstretch.

In the end, Eutsey won by almost five metres in 52.88, beating her team-mate Michelle Brown, who ended second in 53.44.

“I didn't think I could come to another country and win a medal like this and now, I want to take it to the next level,” said the 17-year-old.

“I want to compete in the next Olympics and I am going to work hard towards that goal,” added Eutsey.

The Miami Southridge High School Senior, who admires Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards, said she is well aware of the work needed to qualify for the Olympics.

“I planned to work as hard, or even harder than Allyson and Sanya worked just to get onto the Olympics team in 2012,” she said.

She said track & field training is difficult, but that will not prevent her from chasing her goal. “If you want to be the best, you have to practice hard and I am ready to do what it takes,” added the 17-year-old.

Eutsey said she did not like track & field in her 9th grade year, but “now that I am a senior, I realized it’s something good”.

Eutsey could be considered as one of the most versatile youth, having took part in a wide range of events, 400m with personal best of 52.07, the best time by a youth this year; 100m (12.21); 200m (23.67); 800m (2:24.63) and 5000m (20:20.61).

As for her gold medal won on Friday, Eutsey said she worked really hard for it and now “It feels great to be the World Youth champion”.
