Daegu, KoreaMultiple Olympic and World champion Allyson Felix, and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games medallist David Oliver, are in town for the 7th Colorful Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting 2011 to be held tomorrow, 12 May.  The Meeting, one of the IAAF World Challenge meetings, is billed as a test event for the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 (27 August to 4 September).

Despite their busy training schedules and the rainy conditions, both American athletes took the time to conduct an athletics clinic at the Kyoung-buk Physical Education High School today, for Korean students aspiring to become athletics champions.  During the 30-minute clinic, the students were mesmerized by the tips and running techniques revealed by the champions of the sport.

Felix preached about how mental strength was more important than physical attributes and how her strong will to excel made her a better athlete. Oliver commended on the state-of-the-art facilities in the school, which allow students to exercise in any weather condition. He also revealed that he felt motivated to perform well for the students, who turned up despite the heavy rain.

Later in the afternoon, Felix and Oliver visited the Athletes’ Village of the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011.  The Athletes’ Village will be completed this month and it will be the first ‘true’ Athletes’ Village of the IAAF World Championships. This August, athletes can benefit from walking to the training areas from their apartments, and getting to the Daegu Stadium within 10 minutes, amongst a host of other benefits.

Looking ahead to the Colorful Daegu Meeting on 12 May, Felix expressed her satisfaction at her form and looks forward to a fine performance on the new Mondo track in the Daegu Stadium.
