GoldChantal PETITCLERC, CAN
My aim was to get the gold for my last world championships. We knew that the track wasn't excessively fast for wheelchairs. So I raced strategically, launching my surge in the last 400m. This kind of race is important for different reasons. We are here to perform, we are high level athletes who train 30-40 hours a week like the others. But disabled sports is not recognised the same way throughout the world. Living in Canada, I'm a privileged athlete, benefiting from good support, but that is not the case everywhere. So, such races are an essential way to promote the event.
