Fredericks and Steve Backley to compete in Florö
22 May 2002 - The annual "Meeting To Remember" - Florö Track & Field Festival -
that takes place in the small coastal town of Florö, Norway on June 1, will be
graced by some of the World's top athletics stars this year.
Namibian sprint star Frankie Fredericks, who is really back into the sprinting
grove after running a 9.85 windy 100m in Nairobi last weekend, will start in
both the 100m and 200m.
Britain’s Olympic javelin silver medallist Steve Backley, along with his
compatriot Mick Hill, the European silver medalist are two of the other top
names who will also be present at this year’s meeting.
Florö, a town of 10.000 inhabitants, has made it an matter of honour to promote
athletics at it's best in Norway. Though the meeting has a limited budget
because of the extraordinary friendly atmosphere and the offer of a "deep sea
fishing trip" after the meeting, it has remained a popular venue for many elite
athletes over the years.
