20 February 2001World triple jump champion Charles Friedek of Germany is a doubtful starter for next month's World Indoor Championships because of a thigh injury, his trainer said on Tuesday.
Trainer Bernd Knut said Friedek tore a thigh muscle at a meeting in Stockholm last Friday.
The 29-year-old athlete will miss the German indoor championships in Dortmund next weekend and faces a struggle to be fit in time for the World Indoor Championships from March 9 to 11 in Lisbon.
Friedek, the reigning indoor and outdoor world champion, is second on the 2001 indoor list with 17.08 metres. Olympic champion Jonathan Edwards of Britain leads with 17.60 metres.
