Gebrselassie to make new 1500m record attempt in Gent, Sunday
After a near miss in Stuttgart last Sunday, when Haile Gebrselassie missed out on his attempt to beat the 3:31.18 record mark of Hicham El Guerrouj in the 1500m by a mere 0.58 second margin, he will be making a new attempt to take the indoor mark in the Flanders indoor meeting in Gent on Sunday 8 February.

Gebrselassie started off his indoor season by smashing his own previous world mark indoors for the 3000m with a new time of 7:26.14 and has stated that he is going to concentrate on breaking a maximum of records this year.

During the course of the Gent meeting, Romania's Gabriela Szabo will also be making an attempt at the 5000m indoor world record, currently belonging to Britain's Liz McColgan. Szabo has been conducting altitude training in Morocco for a month and recently ran 4:07.74 in the 1500m in Stuttgart.

Also appearing in Gent: Maria Mutola (MOZ) in the 800m, Ivan Pedrosa (CUB) in the long jump, and pole vaulters Okkert Brits (RSA) and Tim Lobinger (GER).

Results from the meeting can be found at the organisers' official web site.
