Addis Ababa, EthiopiaTwotime TOYOTA Great Ethiopian Run 10km winner Genet Getaneh anchored the Prisons Police A team to the women’s title in the 3rd CRBC Ring Road Relay held on Sunday (17 September).

Prisons Police completed the first double in the history of the three-year event when their A team took victory in the men’s race from the newly-formed Aisha sports club.

But the most commanding performance of the day belonged to the Prisons Police quartet - Makeda Haroun, Aberu Kebede, Zeytuna Arebo, and Genet Getaneh - who took control of the race after the second change-over and never looked back taking victory in 42:45.67.

The Prisons Police B team, consisting of Derebe Alemu, ninth in the long race at the 33rd IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2005, finished well ahead of the Yenegetesfa (tomorrow’s hope) team.

In the men’s race, Prisons Police  A’s Gebo Burka, fourth in the 2004 TOYOTA Great Ethiopian Run, increased his team’s advantage in the third leg helping them to victory in 35:42.63 ahead of the Aisha team with Prisons Police B coming home in third.

The race, organized by the Great Ethiopian Run, was held under the theme “Watch Your Speed” in a bid to publicize road safety in Addis Ababa.
