Hengelo: Gebrselassie will
compete over 3000m or 10,000m

9 April 2000 Paris - Ethiopias Olympic and World champion Haile Gebrselassie, will compete for the first time this year in Hengelo on May 28, but he has yet to decide whether it will be over 3000m or 10,000m.
The announcement was made by Jos Hermens, the
athletes manager and organiser of the Adriaan Paulen Memorial in the Netherlands.
"Haile is completely recovered from his right Achilles tendon injury (obtained just
after the World Championships in Seville last year) but he has yet to decide whether to
run the 3000m or 10,000m in Hengelo." Hermens was in Paris to follow the 2000 edition
of the French capitals marathon.
According to the manager, Gebreselassie is back training in Ethiopia having completed filming a commercial in Germany and Spain.
Other star athletes in Hengelo will include Kenyan Bernard Barmasai, 3000m steeplechase world record holder, and South Africas Hezekiel Sepeng, 800m World silver medallist.
"We will also attempt to break the womens 5000m world record with Ethiopias
Gete Wami and Lydia Cheromei of Kenya", added Jos Hermens.
Wami and Cheromei finished second and fourth respectively in the womens long course race (8km) at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Portugal last month.
