Caroline Hingst won at the women’s Pole Vault meeting in Weissach (Baden-Wuerttemberg), Germany on Sunday 29 May.

In hot temperatures of over 35° Celsius none of the athletes could clear the German Federation’s qualifying standard for Helsinki. 24-year-old Caroline Hingst won the battle against Iceland’s Thorey Edda Elisdottir (4.30m), clearing 4.40 metres. But she missed the standard of 4.45m this time.

“I am not satisfied with my jumps today. Only my last attempt at 4.45m looked like pole vaulting. I will try it again next week in Seville and the following week in Kassel,” said Hingst.

19-year-old Silke Spiegelburg, who’s holds the national season’s best with 4.40m, showed her ability with a fine technique. She saved her last attempt at 4.30m for the next height but missed 4.40m. At the end she shared third place with Krisztina Molnar (Hungary), who had cleared 4.20m as well. Last year’s winner Sabine Schulte had to give up because of an injury. Martina Strutz finished 5th with the same height as Silke Spiegelburg and Krisztina Molnar.

So far none of Germany’s women pole vaulters have been able to clear the standard for Helsinki. In Kassel, in two weeks time they will fight for a ticket for the European Cup in Florence.
