In the High Jump meeting in Eberstadt, Germany yesterday Sweden’s triple World Indoor champion Stefan Holm leapt to a marvellous new outdoor personal best of 2.36.

The height was also a new world season’s best performance, improving on Andrey Sokolovskiy’s 2.35 (13 June). The Ukrainian was well beaten yesterday in third with a 2.30 leap of his own.

Note - Holm, 28, had leapt a personal best of 2.37 indoors on 12 February this year in Stockholm.

Ukraine’s Irina Mikhalchenko, 32, leapt 2.01m to win the women’s competition, a height which was also a personal best. The Ukrainian who had won Eberstadt in 2002 with 2.00m, cleared all heights till 1.97 on the first attempt and had two good jumps at 2.03m
